Higher Health Centre has been at Yonge & Lawrence since 2010. Our IV lounge runs six days a week — iron infusions are one of the things we do most. Most people are assessed within 48 hours and get their infusion the same week.

What it costs
We’re private-pay. Nothing is billed to OHIP. Here is the full cost, up front.

Your total is $658.25 or $926.05, depending on your dose.
The nurse practitioner decides the dose after reviewing your bloodwork. Many patients need 1000 mg, which is usually one visit.
Many extended health plans cover the medication. We check your coverage and tell you exactly what you’ll pay before you book anything. The assessment and infusion visit aren’t eligible for direct billing.
How it works
1. Free 15-minute call
A licensed practitioner asks about your symptoms, your bloodwork, and your history, and tells you whether IV iron is worth pursuing. No cost, no pressure.
2. Nurse practitioner assessment — $165
A full review: your labs, allergies, medications, and any past infusions or reactions. The nurse practitioner prescribes under their own licence and decides your dose. If IV iron isn’t right for you, we say so — and we tell your doctor.
3. Your infusion — $200 plus medication
Usually one visit. Plan for 1 to 2 hours from arrival to leaving, depending on your dose and drip rate.
What the infusion is actually like
You’ll sit in a chair in our IV lounge alongside other patients receiving treatment. Someone from our team stays with you the whole time, and the nurse practitioner is on site.
We take your blood pressure and vitals three times — before we start, partway through, and after. The infusion itself takes 30 to 90 minutes, depending on your dose and drip rate. Then you stay for at least 30 minutes so we can make sure you’re feeling well before you go.
Eat normally beforehand and bring something to read or watch. Side effects are uncommon and usually mild — some people notice a headache, flushing, or achiness for a day or two. Serious reactions are rare, and it’s exactly why we monitor you the way we do.
You’ll leave with written aftercare instructions. Most people drive themselves home and go back to work.
We don’t say yes to everyone
IV iron isn’t right for everybody. We won’t proceed if you’ve had a serious allergic reaction to IV iron before, or if the assessment turns up another reason it isn’t safe or appropriate for you.
If we decline, you aren’t charged for the infusion, and we send a note to your doctor explaining why.
After your infusion
Iron takes time to rebuild. We’ll have you recheck your bloodwork about six weeks later.
We also want to know why you were low in the first place. Iron deficiency is a symptom, not a diagnosis. If nothing changes, you may be back here in a year. The follow-up visit is where we look at your new numbers and work out what’s driving it.
We send a full note to your doctor within 48 hours of your infusion, so they have everything they need for your ongoing care.

Questions
Do I need a prescription from my doctor?
No. Our nurse practitioner assesses you and prescribes.
Do I need my doctor to send anything?
It helps if they fax your labs, but it isn’t required. Bring or send your recent bloodwork and we’ll work from that.
What if my bloodwork is old?
We can order new labs before your assessment.
How fast can I be seen?
Most people are assessed within 48 hours and infused the same week.
Is it covered?
The medication often is. We check your specific plan and confirm your cost before you book.
How long does the whole thing take?
Between 1 and 2 hours on infusion day, including the observation period afterward.
Is my doctor still my doctor?
Yes. Nothing changes. We send them a full note and you go back to them for ongoing care.
